Creating and managing suppliers

There are two parts to setting up a supplier to use with DropShop. The first part is creating the supplier in the Shopify admin. The second part is creating a corresponding supplier within DropShop. You must do both to proceed.

Setting up a supplier in Shopify

Setting up a supplier in the Shopify admin is very straightforward. 

In your store's Shopify admin go to Settings -> Shipping -> Additional Shipping Methods -> Manage Services:

Then scroll down to Custom Order Fulfillment and add a Custom Fulfillment Service:

Fulfillment Service Title Field

Enter in a fulfillment service title to represent this supplier. Name it something about the supplier, like the supplier's AliExpress store name, or whatever will assist you with understanding what this supplier represents.

Ensure that you do not enter whitespace (empty spaces between letters) in this Title field. This is necessary to sync with DropShop. This means "ACME Shipping Services" would be "ACMEShippingServices" without whitespace.

Email Address Field

This is not the supplier's email address.

Whatever email address that you enter in this form box will receive an email every single time a individual order for this supplier is placed by a customer in Shopify. This means that you should not enter your suppliers email address, but should enter your own, or use [email protected], or else you will spam your supplier and they will become confused.

Since we are placing our own bulk orders and emailing the files to our suppliers in bulk, these individual order emails are redundant and are not needed--but there is no way to turn them off. If you enter your own email address, you should setup a rule to filter and delete these specific emails within your inbox (as you will not need them).

This is not the supplier's email address.

Setting up a supplier in DropShop

Now that you have a supplier setup in Shopify, you can create the respective supplier within DropShop. You can do the setups steps in any order (Shopify first or DropShop first without any impact).

It is, however, very important to match the supplier title word for word between DropShop and Shopify. If they do not match, then products will not synchronize.

In the Dropshop app go to App Settings and click Add a supplier:

Enter in all relevant supplier details, noting that the address information is for a future feature request and is not mandatory at this time.

Supplier Carrier Mapping and Export Format

In this section you can set this supplier's  export format and carrier mapping scheme. This does not need to be done at the time of setup but the export format must be set prior to exporting a file, and the carrier mapping scheme must be set prior to importing a file.

Supplier Product Detail Section

After a supplier is saved in DropShop and exists within Shopify with products mapped to it, DropShop will automatically keep the product mapping for the supplier synced. Users can then view the supplier and browse to the Supplier Product List section to see how many products are associated with a given supplier.

Each variant will appear as a distinct DropShop "product" for the supplier as each variant has a unique Shopify variant ID associated with it.

Users can then click to manage the linked supplier products in more detail with the  'Manage products' link.
